The National Parks: America’s Best Idea

The much anticipated film, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, directed by Ken Burns premieres today at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival. The epic 12-hour documentary was made over the span of six years and features the nation’s most spectacular and breathtaking locales from Alaska to Florida, and everywhere in between.

The film not only showcases the beauty of the National Parks, but also tells the story of the creation and building of the National Parks system in the mid-1800s using first-person accounts, interviews, archival photographs, and personal memories. Parallel to these historical accounts are contemporary stories of people inspired by the parks.

The six-episode series will air on PBS in the fall, starting September 27, 2009.

Read more about the film and watch a preview on the PBS’s website.
