Snowshoe in Lassen Volcanic National Park

If you are looking for something to do during the holiday break (and will be near Lassen Volcanic National Park), starting December 26th rangers will be leading snowshoe walks in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

The walks will occur every weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) at 1:30pm from December 26-April 4. The best part? These ranger-led walks will be free, though a donation of $1 is suggested for snowshoe use and maintenance.

Snowshoe walks will range from 1 1/2 to 2-hours in length and will depart from the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center near the park’s southwest entrance. (Find directions on NPS’s website here.) Not only will you get a guided tour, but rangers will also show participants snowshoeing techniques and winter outdoor survival techniques. It is suggested to dress warmly and in layers for the hike, if you plan on going.

Misty, if you are looking to get started in snowshoeing, a great resource for tips, equipment, and even snowshoe-specific trails is snowshoes.com. Check out the “Learn” section if you are just getting started. Hope that helps, and have fun!
