This year the NPCA is organizing an annual coastal cleanup event on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. For those in the area and interested in helping out, mark your calendars for the weekend of April 23.
WHAT: Washington Coastal Clean Up 2011
WHEN: Clean Up is on Saturday, April 23, 2011 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Camping is available on Friday and Saturday nights, April 22 and 23.
WHERE: Kalaloch Beach, Olympic National Park. Meet at the Kalaloch Campground in the main parking lot.
RSVP: Please RSVP to Bethany Van Etten, bvanetten@npca.org, by Friday, March 25 to reserve a space.
After the Clean Up, there will be a cookout for volunteers with food provided. However, don’t forget to bring your own food and water for the rest of the weekend. Work gloves are also important, and if you plan on staying overnight at the Kalaloch Campground, bring camping gear. Though the camping will be free for volunteers, sites are limited so make sure to get there early!
I lived near and hiked the Olympics a lot. Wonderful, raw beauty. Good idea to keep it that way. Use your hiking stick to help you pick up the trash.
