Recent designs from Brunton

Brunton has been making outdoor equipment for hikers, campers, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts for over a century. This diverse group of customers is because of the wide range of products they design and manufacture, from binoculars to campstoves. Some of their more recent designs were showcased at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. Here are a few products that would be great for longer backpacking trips and camping.

Restore

These days it’s pretty common to see quite a few electronic devices make it into your pack–GPS, cell phone, camera, personal locator beacons, MP3 player…the list goes on. But the problem with carrying all these devices is that they require batteries, and sometimes lots of them. The Brunton Restore aims to lighten your load by providing you with a power station to charge your electronics. It’s equipped with a USB port to charge up the station (and in turn, charge your electronics), as well as car and wall socket adapters. The 7.2-ounce unit has a mini-USB cable which can plug in to a camera, cell phone, or GPS (depending on your model) to juice up. Plus, when the power storage gets low, you can flip open the case to expose two small solar panels for recharging the unit. And because it will probably take a beating on the trail, it has a water resistant, durable, rubberized shell. MSRP $125.

Flip n’ Drip

Coffee making can be a bit tricky when your camping–depending on your style (drip, french press, espresso), it make require hauling a few extra pieces of equipment to camp. The Flip n’ Drip keeps everything together in one neat package. Simply heat your water over the camp stove in the stainless cup, fill the reusable mesh filter with grounds, close the whole unit up, and flip over. After a few minutes, your (drip-style) coffee will be ready and ready to go in a double-walled, insulated mug. The Flip n’ Drip can hold up to 16 ounces, and will also work with tea (follow the same steps but replace the grounds with tea leaves). MSRP $60.

BrewFire

The BrewFire is definitely not for the ultralight backpacker! However, this would be great for longer camping trips with people who just can’t live without their coffee. The BrewFire works just like a standard drip-style coffee maker, but rather than running on electricity, it runs on propane or butane fuel. The unit is able to make 8 cups at a time and the stainless steel thermal carafe can keep coffee hot for up to 2.5 hours. An extra cool feature: if the unit is tipped over, the fuel automatically shuts off. Brew time is about 10-12 minutes. MSRP $160.
