Wow! This may have been one of our most popular photo contests. With well over a hundred entries, it was hard to whittle down our favorites to the top ten! Check out the talent below:
The winner
Congratulations to Sandra Fercho, who photographed this amazing big horn sheep while hiking the Highline Trail in Glacier National Park. She’s the winner of the Daily Hiker t-shirt this week!
The Runners Up
There were quite a few others that came in very close behind Sandra’s photo. In no particular order:
It’s pretty hard to deny the cuteness of Tina Arnold’s photo…she snapped this picture last year on Mt. Rainier’s Pinnacle Peak trail.
Perry Ligon spotted this Northern Saw Whet Owl near the Shikellamy Trail, north of Harrisburg, PA.
Dave stocker captured this photo of a herd of Alpine Ibex in the upper reaches of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, in the Bernese Highlands range of the Swiss Alps.
Nancy Ullrich had a momentary hold up near the Gunflint Trail out of Grand Marais, MN when a moose cow and her two baby calves crossed the road.
A rare sighting of a bald eagle by Donna Daugherty.
While they aren’t the most attractive bird, you can’t deny the grace of this turkey vulture in flight, photo snapped by Robert Sokolich.
Steve Reid took this beautiful picture of a dragonfly.
Mike says that during a trip through Badlands National Park, this buffalo (part of a larger herd) interrupted their lunch. “we continued to eat but kept a close eye on our lunch.”
Ed Roberson used to live in Brasilito, Costa Rica, and says, “this little guy lived in a tree outside of my house and would wake me up every morning.”

These wildlife photos are amazing!! I hope to one day have one of my own on here. My favorite one here is the dragonfly.
Wow! Those are some amazing photo’s and a fun contest too.
All pics are winners indeed, but the OWl is my pick…..Thanks for the nice display of pics..
All the photos are gorgeous. But the owl, is absolutely precious!
They are all great shots! I love looking at everyone’s pictures. To hard for me to pick a winner to me they all win!
Wow, what an impressive creature that big horn sheep is! The photos are terrific, but make me realise how long it’s been since I’ve been out on the trail having my own wildlife encounters….
