Readers’ best pictures from 2010

Last week, we ran a promotion asking you to send in your best hiking picture from 2010. The best submission would receive a Daily Hiker t-shirt. After a ton of responses and lots of contemplation, we’ve picked a winner.

Winning Photo:

Heidi Walker gets a Daily Hiker t-shirt. She says this picture was “taken this past August at sunset from the Pacific Crest Trail.

Competition was pretty stiff though. Here’s some of the other pictures (in no particular order) that came close:

Barbara B. who took a photo of her taking a photo of Mount Sir Douglas from lower slopes of Snow Peak, Kananskis Country, Alberta, Canada. She says “I took the self-timer photo with my old camera as I was trying out my new Nikon D5000 (one can never have enough camera gear in the mountains :-) ).”

Robert Sokolich of Ontario

Doug Keech of British Columbia that says “This is a photo of the falls and pool along hatchery creek in the great bear rainforest. We were hiking through the forest along the gunsight mountain trail just north of Kitimat, B.C. Canada. The trail is about 16 km return with a 955 meter elevation gain.

Kurt Becker who says this was taken on a “Snowshoe hike in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Wasatch Mountains on 12/23/2010

Robin Wyrick-Bird who says the photo was taken “from atop Mt. LeConte – Great Smoky Mountains National Park in April 2010

James Weygand sends in our most remote picture. He says this “is an image from a little hike I took at McMurdo, Antarctica. The hike is the Ob Hill hike on Ross Island and in the image is Falcon Scott’s Memorial Cross, the volcano Mt Erubus blowing off some steam, and Castle rock at the base of Mt Erebus.

Jacob Brandon took this photo of a camp at 3rd lake in the Sierras

Deanna Hurtubise took this photo from the Crypt Lakes Hike in Waterton, Alberta

Thanks to everyone that sent in photos. Competition was fierce and the pictures I posted just scratch the surface. If you didn’t get a shirt this time around, we’ll be giving away more shirts in the future.

    Hello,
This is an amazing photo..Makes me wanna go hiking..I am new to this group and love it, mainly due to the pictures everyone has posted. In fact, after viewing all of these beautiful photos, it has inspired a friend and I to go all out all on one of our dream hikes..Where is it? Not sure yet. But one photo alone had inspired me was one of the pictures seen on here and I also saw a special on it on TV..The Narrows of Zion National Park in Utah..Plus I have family there..I have only been hiking in Georgia (mainly the A.T.) but I have always wanted to go out west to do some hiking because of the rough and beautiful terrain..Thanks for all the photos and look forward to many more inspirational photos…
