We recently found out about the Public Lands Service Corps Act of 2009, HR 1612, which if passed, would help fund thousands of new jobs to help support the national parks system. These Service Corps would help educate and restore the national parks by rehabilitating campgrounds, removing invasive species, and conducting research projects.
These long-term (8-24 months) positions would be able to tackle larger restorative and research-based tasks than seasonal or short-term workers. The goal is to create a diverse and dedicated service corps that would help to reinvigorate the interest in our national parks.
You can read more about HR 1612 on the NPCA’s website. You can take action and show your support by contacting your state representative here.
