New products from Sierra Designs for Fall 2010
Sierra Designs has been in the outdoor gear market since 1965, and has always developed their products with the eco-conscious consumer in mind, but keeping prices at attainable levels. We got a preview of some of the new outerwear pieces from Sierra Designs Fall/Winter lineup at Outdoor Retailer. Here are just a few.
Solar and Prima Fusion Jackets
At Outdoor Retailer, Sierra Designs introduced the Solar and Prima Fusion jackets which utilize their Core Comfort Technologyâ„¢. Combining body mapping with the stitch-free Fusonicâ„¢ Technology, insulation is placed in key regions of the jacket to provide optimum insulation and performance in cold temperatures. The design also allows for body temperature regulation between high and low activity levels (perfect example: skiing and riding the chairlift). The Solar Fusion jacket will have 800-fill power down insulation on the back, chest, and arms, but not in the hood or underarm areas, where ventilation is most important and weighs in at 33.5 ounces (retails at $329). The Prima Fusion uses PrimaLoft Eco insulation and weighs 33 ounces. The Prima Fusion jacket has slightly lower MSRP of $289.
Part of the Pinnacle series from Sierra Designs, the Rad hardshell is a simple, waterproof, breathable jacket on first glance with a couple of nice features hiding beneath the simple design. One thing this jacket is not lacking is pockets, with five exterior and four interior pockets. Plenty of room for your keys, cell phone, iPod, energy gels, and whatever else you can think to stash away. Pit zips and a helmet compatible hood make this a versatile jacket for multiple adventures. MSRP $239.
Another addition to the Pinnacle series, the Manic Down Hoody is a puffy jacket with 800-fill goose down with a ripstop nylon shell. Extra attention to detail was paid with features like oversized zippers (easier for cold and numb hands to maneuver) and multiple ways to seal out the cold air (drawstrings, hook-and-loop cuffs, and elastic-edged hood, to name a few). In addition, the jacket is coated with Sierra Designs Cire coating to keep light rain and snow at bay. It will retail for $239.
The Gnar will be available in two styles, a standard jacket and a hooded version. The lightweight jacket (11 ounces) has 800-fill goose down insulation and a ripstop nylon exterior treated with DWR finish. Not only will it be available in two styles, but it will also be available for both men and women. The jacket will retail for $199 and the hoody for a slightly higher price tag of $209.
Lunatic Jacket and Pants
The
Lunatic jacket and pants are part of Sierra Designs softshell lineup, and lend themselves well to a wide range of activities. Soft shell fabric is great for cooler temperatures in dry climates, but the breathability also lends itself well for spring hiking (or even skiing). The Lunatic pieces are made with Sierra Designs Barricade fabric, which provides stretch in four directions for ultimate mobility. They also lost stitching and are constructed with Fusonic Technology, which bonds the fabrics together for a stronger and more waterproof piece. The Lunatic pants are designed with the skier or mountaineer in mind–reinforced panels protect the pants from getting sliced up by ski edges or crampons. A well-designed venting system (inseam, thigh, and lower leg) helps to regulate your body temperature throughout the day. The jacket, hoody, and pant will retail for $159, $169, and $159, respectively.
