Mammut has been making outdoor gear for a long time–the foundation of the company can be traced all the way back to the mid-1800s in Lenzburg, Switzerland. These days, they are best known for their high quality alpine mountaineering, snowsports gear, and footwear. Here are just a few of the new products for FallĀ 2010 from Mammut.
Sophora jacket
This year, they have added a few new designs to their Alpine/Mountaineering apparel line for women. The new Sophora hard shell jacket is one of the additions.
- Gore-Tex Performance Shell offers protection in windy, damp weather
- fleece lining keeps you warm and comfortable
- removable hood for saving weight when the weather allows
- MSRP is $399.

Mammut also added two styles of alpine mountaineering hard shell pants to their women’s line-up. The Zenobia pants are lightweight at 550 grams and made with Gore-Tex Pro Shell. The pants feature full-length side zip access and integrated gaiters, as well as reinforced areas for protection from crampons. The Zenobia pants are designed to accomodate both mountaineering boots and larger ski boots as well. MSRP is $399. The other hard shell style pant, the Tense pants are made with Gore-Tex Performance Shell but have all the same features as the Zenobia with the added addition of suspenders. The Performance Shell adds a bit of weight to the pant (at 820 grams) but you get a slightly lower price point, with an MSRP of $299.
There are also quite a few additions to Mammut’s line of snow apparel for men that utilize some innovating technology (click image for full size).
One of our favorites from the show was the Alyeska jacket and pant for men. Designed for the ultimate backcountry deep-powder skier/rider, the Alyeska features the hermetic jacket-to-pants connection (see chart above). Mobility is key with this jacket. It features:
- a zip-out expansion collar
- articulated elbows
- pre-shaped, helmet compatible hood
- stretchable (but also detachable) snow skirt
The pants feature stretchable snow gaiters, 2-way side zip for ventilation, and detachable kidney protector and braces. The jacket and pants will retail for $699 and $499, respectively.
Mamook Thermo
For mountaineering footwear, the trend seems to be drifting away from the hard plastic double boot style and towards the more lightweight single-wall design. New for Fall 2010, Mammut has the Mamook Thermo, a lightweight, insulated alpine mountaineering boot. The Mamook Thermo will retail for $419.
- 3-zone, assymetrical lacing system
- integrated neoprene gaiter
- crampon compatible
- protective rubber edge
- Vibram Teton sole
Claw GTX for women
But if skiing/snowboarding or mountaineering isn’t your thing, Mammut also has some new light hikers and urban streetshoes for Fall as well. The Claw GTX for men and women are a heavy duty trail runner that can also double as a light hiker or approach shoe. Both men’s and women’s models will retail for $129 and feature:
- Gore-Tex liner
- 360-degree heel support
- torsion reinforcement
- Mammut DC footbed
- Vibram Reptilia sole
Palisade DLX for men
For the more urban-streetwear shoe with a climbing/approach shoe inspiration, Mammut introduces their Palisade DLX style for both men and women. It has the same asymmetrical lacing system as many climbing shoes, a grippy Spider sole, rubber toe cap, and the Mammut DC footbed. Both the men and women styles will retail for $119.
