New Products from GoLite for Fall 2010
When I think of ultralight outdoors products, GoLite is one of the first brands that comes to mind. Using innovative construction technology and fabrics, they design specifically for the outdoor adventurer with weight-saving in mind. However, GoLite is also committed to sustainability in the industry and incorporates this into the production of their products, using recycled materials when possible. Here are a few of the products from GoLite for the upcoming Fall season.
The Castle Peak parka for men is designed for those cold backcountry days, where you want extra insulation but without the bulk. It features plenty of pockets, pit zips, helmet-compatible hood, and a powder skirt. The zonal insulation provides warmth where you need it most and cuts down on bulk in places where you don’t. It also is one of GoLite’s recycled content products, utilizing ReFill insulation. MSRP $350.
The Demaree Conyone style for women is available in both a jacket and anorak style cut. The 800-fill down keeps you nice and toasty on the coldest mountain days. To eliminate bulk (a common feature in down puffy jackets), the side panels are constructed with a contoured knit, making it easy to layer the jacket under shells for water resistance. The Demaree Canyone is another product to feature GoLite’s Recycled Content stamp. MSRP $200 for the jacket and $185 for the anorak.
One of the big themes we saw at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market was dual-purpose apparel. We classified these as pieces constructed with performance fabrics that excel on the trail and in the mountains, but can also transfer over into more day-to-day wear. The Granite Creek hiking pant is just that–on first glance they look like a nice pair of chinos, but they are actually fully functional hiking pants. Available in two colors and have a MSRP $100.
TraveLite wheeled carry-on luggage
Though not a brand new product, the TraveLite series from GoLite is nothing to shake a stick at. Not only are they available in legal carry-on sizes, the luggage weighs up to 30 percent less than comparable suitcases. For the adventurer or world traveler, that extra initial weight can make a big difference, especially as airlines are raising rates and charging more for overweight and oversize baggage. Made with lightweight and durable Tier 1 recycled nylon, the TraveLite performs well without the bulk. We’ll be testing one of these bags on our ‘Round the World travel series in March so stay tuned for a review. MSRP $175.
