The summer season has officially ended in Mt. Rainier National Park marked by the seasonal closing of Paradise Inn. Many of the campgrounds have already closed or will be closing in the next week. Though these closings give visitors much less options for staying in the park, it gives park officials time to reflect on the past season.
This year between June and August, Mt. Rainier National Park had the most visitors in 10 years, with 749,877 visits. Almost 4% more than last year’s numbers for the same time period. The month of August itself accounted for almost 40% of the summer’s visitors, and was the highest August visitation numbers since 2002, and an almost 10% increase in visits since last year.
This year to date, 909,254 people have visited the park. With three months left in the calendar year, 2010 will likely beat last years’ visit numbers.
