Daily Hiker Holiday Gift Guide

It’s Black Friday and the holiday shopping madness has begun! We’ve put together a gift guide that will help you find the perfect gift for the hikers on your holiday list.

Under $30:

The Petzl e+LITE emergency headlamp is a great stocking stuffer for those always on the trail. The compact and lightweight headlamp is designed for emergency situations and features a blinking light and safety whistle. $29.95.

With all the recent studies being released about how dangerous BPA can be, the Klean Kanteen is a safe and BPA-free option (made of 18/8 stainless steel). (And for those coffee/tea drinkers, they just released a new insulated mug!) Klean Kanteen Classic: $14.95-$25.95. Insulated mugs: $22.95-$27.95.

Under $50:

And for the kids, with a backpack just like Mom or Dad, they’ll have a place to put their favorite water bottle (or toy) when they go along for a hike. The Deuter Junior Pack is styled in the same way as their adult packs, but made for smaller hands, and incorporates extra reflective panels for increased visibility. $39.

SmartWool’s Reversible NTS scarf is perfect for keeping your favorite gal warm on those cold winter days, whether it be around town or on the trail. Made of 100% merino wool, this scarf is super soft and comes in a few different colors and patterns. $45.

Under $100:

For those on your list that always seem to be backpacking, the CleanStream Gravity Filter from Platypus will surely be appreciated. With two clearly hydration bags (dirty and clean), you don’t have to remember which water bottle is contaminated. Plus, it filters 4 liters of water in about 3 minutes, without any pumping! $89.95.

Marketed as a weather station, but featuring a large display altimeter, flashlight, and alarm clock, HighGear’s TerraPod makes a great gift for someone who doesn’t want all those features in a watch. When we tested the TerraPod this summer, we loved the large display and handy stand (which also can be clipped to your pack with a carabiner). $70.

Serious splurge:

For the ultimate explorer, the Suunto Core watch has everything: altimeter, barometer, thermometer, compass, chronograph, and even a Storm Alert, to let you know when storms are coming your way. All of these features are packed into a low profile, lightweight design. $399.

Snow won’t keep you from your favorite hikes this winter with a pair of MSR’s Lightning Snowshoes. Designed to handle moderate terrain, the Lightning snowshoes are the lightest in their class, but still deliver great traction. $229.95.

Stocking stuffers for the dog:

Ruff Wear’s Gourdo dog toy, made out of sustainable rubber, available in 2 sizes (Small, Large). $9.95-$11.95.

Planet Dog’s Orbee-Tuff Mint chew toy, made to hold up against even the toughest chewers and has a pleasant peppermint scent. $10.95.
