National Park Week starts on Saturday! To celebrate, visitors between April 17-25 this year will gain free admission into any of the 392 parks and monuments in the National Parks System.
Many parks are offering additional programs and family activities during National Park Week, as well as specials on lodging, souvenirs, and tours. National Park Week will kick off the 2010 tourist season with a slew of activities and events, including Earth Day (April 22) events.
In the words of NPS Director Jon Jarvis, “Most people live within a short drive of a national park so I encourage everyone to spend some time enjoying America’s Great Outdoors during National Park Week.” This is a great opportunity to get outdoors, especially as the spring weather is warming up.
Though not all 392 parks charge admission during the rest of the year, if you are visiting one of the 146 that do, saving you anywhere from $3 to $25. However, the fee-free week does not include fees associated with reservations, camping, or concessions.
