Climbing Ranger Rescued on Mount Rainier
On Wednesday afternoon a climbing ranger had to be rescued on Mount Rainier. After climbing to the summit, the ranger was in the process of skiing down to Camp Sherman when he fell approximately forty feet into a crevasse.
The ranger, identified as 27-year-old Sam Wick was skiing with another ranger, Cooper Self. Self witnessed the fall and with the help of an off-duty ranger and guide from International Mountain Guides, Wick was rescued from the crevasse.
A rescue helicopter airlifted him to Seattle Harborview Medical Center. Wick sustained injuries to his leg, but they are not life threatening. He is in his fourth year as a climbing ranger on Mount Rainier.
