Boeing Supports Mount Rainier National Park

Rainier at sunsetOn Monday of this week, the Boeing Company Charitable Trust presented Washington’s National Park Fund with a check for $75,000. This grant will be used to fund projects that will help the park move towards a goal of being carbon neutral by 2016.

Analyzing motorized park vehicle emissions and equipment will be one of the main projects that will receive funding. By analyzing emissions, they hope to be able to reduce emissions (as well as operating costs). In addition, they will use the grant to fund the already-in-place visitor shuttle, which cuts down on traffic during the summer visitation months.

WNPF was awarded the grant by the Boeing Charitable Trust because of the goals that Mount Rainier National Park has set regarding reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. Naleema Shah, Boeing’s community investor for Northwest environmental issues said, “We think the Mount Rainier project has set a very worthwhile goal.”

You can read the WNPF press release here. We look forward to hearing about the progress of these projects at Mount Rainier and plan to keep our readers informed of any updates.
