“Barefoot Bandit” pleads not guilty to five federal charges

On Thursday in Seattle, Colton Harris-Moore (the famous “Barefoot Bandit” that has been all over the news lately) pled “not guilty” to five federal charges. One of the charges Harris-Moore is facing: stealing and piloting an aircraft without a valid airman’s certificate.

The case against Harris-Moore is complicated. In addition to the federal charges, he also faces multiple charges in San Juan and Island County for crimes committed early in his cross-country crime spree. John Henry Browne, Harris-Moore’s lawyer, is representing him in both the federal and county cases, and working to get charges consolidated to arrange for a plea agreement.

Browne is already negotiating for a plea agreement that would allow for his client to sell his story as a movie or book. He claims the income generated would allow Harris-Moore to pay his restitution. No stranger to high-profile cases (Browne has also represented serial killer Ted Bundy), he has made claims that he will “bankrupt” those that attempt to prosecute his client.
