When the weather gets colder, we grab an extra layer to keep us warm when we head outside…but what about your dog? With the Climate Changer fleece jacket from Ruff Wear, your four-legged friend can stay warm and toasty on all your cold-weather outings. Read more for our full review.
We (or rather, the Daily Hiker mascot, a 7 month old German Shepherd) have been testing the Climate Changer fleece from Ruff Wear now that the weather is getting colder. Made from Polartec Classic 200 recycled fleece, it’s cozy for those cold (but dry) days.
While we are pretty sure the dog cares more about going for a walk and less about the quality of the jacket, we were quite impressed with the jacket’s construction. The seems are sewn flat to avoid irritation, and the fleece is soft, machine washable, and dries quickly. Our favorite feature is how easy it is to put on with the integration of a side zipper. An nice surprise is the very ample flap behind the zipper to prevent any fur from being zipped up. Plus, the fleece is flexible and stretchy, so your dog will be able to run right along side with you without any problems. Ruff Wear kept your dog’s safety in mind with integrated reflective tape along the edges, and our favorite feature–the ‘light loop’ on the top of the back for a safety light.
The Climate Changer jacket is part of Ruff Wear’s line of Eco-Sensitive gear. The Polartec used in the jacket is made of 87% recycled and recyclable content. Not only that, but the jacket earned Ruff Wear an Apex Award from Polartec for innovative use of materials. It is currently available in two colors: obsdian black, and lichen green, and retails for $59.95.
