New Balance is best known for their history of manufacturing shoes to fit a variety of sizes and widths. The ability to find exactly the size that fits you has helped them become a popular choice among the running crowd. The WT910 for women from New Balance is a rugged and technical trail runner with a Gore-Tex XCR lining and quite a few trail-running specific features.
With some recent rainy days, I have had the chance to test out the performance of the WT910. The Gore-Tex XCR lining is one of the main selling points of this trail runner, and it’s water-proof claims held true. Even through a few downpours and puddles, my socks remained dry, and as an added benefit, the shoes did not become water-logged, slowing down my pace over the course of my runs.
In addition to the Gore-Tex lining, these trail runners sport some well-thought-out features. The Toe-Protect reinforcement provides protection from rocks and other debris you might encounter on the trail. The tongue is fully-gusseted to keep debris (and water) out of the shoe. A feature I hadn’t seen on shoes before was the Sure-Lace system–the wave pattern knit of the laces do not slip or untie, so stopping to re-tie your laces is a thing of the past. The WT910 also utilizes New Balance’s Ortholite inserts, both breathable and anti-microbial. Fore those interested, the inserts are completely removable for custom insoles.
New Balance also offers these in a men’s model, the MT910, with all the same features of the WT910. Both the men’s and women’s models retail for $130.
