Review: Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge capris

Though the weather here in the Pacific Northwest is just starting to warm up, summer will be here before we know it. If you are looking for a lightweight option for hiking on those days where it just isn’t quite warm enough for shorts, check out the Silver Ridge capris from Columbia. Read more for our full review.

The Silver Ridge capris are designed for multi-sport warm weather activities, with features that will keep you cool even during high energy activities. They use Columbia’s proprietary Omni-Dry technology to wick away moisture as well as provide UPF 50 protection with Omni-Shade. The back of the capris features a hidden mesh panel that provide venting as well as increased stretch. The capri-length pants also have tabs at the hems to roll up and create knee length shorts for those really hot days.

I had a chance to test the Silver Ridge capris while in some warmer-and-more-humid-than-Seattle locales and they were great for a variety of activities. They are a good choice for traveling because the lightweight fabric not only saves weight in your pack, but also does not wrinkle much even after being packed into it’s own stowaway pocket (the zippered cargo pocket on the leg). Though definitely designed with performance in mind, the Silver Ridge capris also transition well into streetwear, with simple features like a flat waistband and belt loops. The Omni-Dry fabric provides good ventilation and dries quickly.

Overall, the Silver Ridge capris are a good choice for warmer weather hikes, especially on days when it’s too warm for pants, but you know the trail isn’t well suited for shorts. They retail for $50 and are available in both a wide range of sizes and three (neutral) colors.
