Review: Prana Stretch Zion Pant

Pants that work anywhere from ‘mountain top to coffee shop’. Well, that’s what Prana claims. We put them to the test. Read more for our review of the Prana stretch Zion pant.

Back in March, I had a bit of a conundrum. I needed to pack for a trip around the world (literally). Temperatures would range from around freezing to 85 degrees (F). Oh, and all my clothing had to fit into a bag that met the requirements for carry-on luggage.  The only way this would work was if all my clothing could multitask. This was where the stretch Zion pants from Prana came in.

The stretch Zion pants are what I would consider a medium weight hiking pant. They’re made from a stretchy nylon fabric that really increases comfort. Snaps are included around the legs to make rolling the legs up very easy. The inseam is ventilated and a belt is built in to the waist.

These are all nice features, but how good do the pants work? Well, after 21,000 miles, 3 continents, subway, car, train, boat, and plane, I think I’ve gotten to know the Zion pants pretty well. In Tokyo, these pants kept me nice and warm without the need to warm up inside. In 80 degree weather in Hong Kong, I hiked Victoria Peak wearing these pants. Needless to say, I was sweating. I was amazed how well the stretch zion pants breathed and how quickly they dried when wet. As a plus, I didn’t look too out of place in Paris wearing these pants either. They’re pretty casually styled and don’t scream ‘tourist’.

Overall, I’m really impressed with these pants. At $70, they’re not cheap. However, they’re extremely durable, well made pants. They’re not the cheapest pants you can buy, but they’re only slightly more than the average pair of hiking pants. If Prana keeps making clothing this good, I just might end up with quite a bit more of it in my closet.
