Review: Ahnu Rockridge XTR

Ahnu Rockridge XTRThe Rockridge XTR is a new lightweight trail runner from Bay Area shoe company Ahnu. Ahnu uses the latest technology, materials, and sustainable practices to develop quality footwear for the trail and city.

The women’s Rockridge XTR is designed for optimum balance and rear foot stability on a variety of terrain. We tested these trail runners on a few different trails and were impressed with the performance, even on more difficult terrain. Weighing in at only 12.36 ounces makes them suitable for both trail and road running, and they provide enough support for like hiking on more even terrain. Though not equipped with a Gore-Tex lining, they have a hydrophobic mesh upper that helps to repel water, but stay breathable for those rainy trail runs.

The Rockridge XTR also features Ahnu’s Neutral Positioning System (NPS), which stabilizes the heel in the shoe and keeps the foot in a neutral position throughout the stride. The combination of elements in the in NPS help to prevent inward or outward rolling of the foot. In addition, the Rockridge provided excellent arch support, and our testers did not need a break-in period while testing these shoes.

Overall, the Rockridge XTR is a great cross-terrain shoe for people who run on a variety of surfaces, from pavement to gravel to dirt trails. The MSRP is $100.

I just got a pair of these, and they’re great. I tried on a ton of shoes before I bought these. The extra money for them is worth it. I don’t have to buy special insoles to make my foot comfortable. I have an issue of resting too much on my heels, which ends up hurting the rest of my body, and these put my foot into a very center balanced position. I bought them at The Walking Company in the mall near me, and I considered getting some memory foam insoles, but they’re not necessary. The only problem I had while hiking was that my foot slipped slightly forward, when going downhill, causing a little rubbing on my heel; but I think I just need to wear thicker socks next time. I tried on a pair of anhus with goretex, but I could tell they would make my feet sweat too much and they just weren’t as centering for my body.
