About

Daily Hiker is a web magazine dedicated to helping hikers, backpackers, mountaineers, and anyone else interested in the outdoors. We strive to give you all the information that you may need for your next pursuit outside. What sets us apart from the competition is the usefulness of the information you’ll find here.

Daily Hiker’s gear reviews are always hands-on and in-depth. Unlike other websites, we have more than a stock photo of the gear we review. Our reviews include added photos of the gear highlighting any cool features so you can easily see what we talk about in the review.

Our trail overviews include trail maps on real USGS quads. This way you can easily see the trail exactly the same way it looks on your own USGS topographic map. As always, we’ll show you photos of any views or interesting points along the way.

We also cover anything interesting happening in the outdoor world. We’ll post new technology announcements or anything that’s just plain neat.

The bottom line? If it’s interesting to someone who loves the outdoors, we’ll post it on Daily Hiker. If you happen to find something you think belongs here that we haven’t covered yet, feel free to send us an email through the contact page.

Gear Review Policy:

We like well-made gear. So on occasion, we’ll test gear and offer feedback to the manufacturer. If we like a product, we’ll put it up on Daily Hiker as a review for the world to see. With few exceptions, we will not post negative reviews. Every company is going to come out with a bad product once in a while. So, we’ll review these products and offer feedback. However, they will not be publicly reviewed.

Some of the products we get are sent to us by the manufacturers. Most of this we try to give away to readers. Backpacks, camp stoves, etc are given away in our Gear Closet Giveaways. Since no one wants our used boots or baselayers, we keep those. Other times we’ll purchase gear with our own hard-earned money and review it here. How do you know which is which? If we haven’t purchased the product ourselves, you’ll see a note at the end of the review. That said, no one gets a free pass when we test gear (free or not). If it’s genuinely a good product, it will get reviewed here.
