Holiday events across the country in our National Parks

With the holiday season in full swing, visiting a national park or historic monument may not be at the top of your list. However, many of the parks and sites in the National Parks system have festive and holiday events and celebrations. Here are just a few of the events that are happening across the country this month, organized by the NPS.

Permits to climb Half Dome will be required weekdays

Last year, the National Park Service initiated a program that required people interested in climbing Half Dome in Yosemite National Park on a weekend to make a free reservation online (but incurred a $1 transaction fee). Next year, hikers will need to make a reservation if they plan to climb on any day of the week.

Hi-Tec Trinity Peak Parka: Review and Giveaway

Earlier this year, Hi-Tec made the announcement that they would be venturing into the world of outerwear and apparel. After being in the footwear market for over 30 years, it was time to expand their brand. The apparel line debuted this Fall with a line of outerwear for both men and women. Olympic National Park opens December 17 for Winter Season

Most people think of visiting a national park in the summer, when blue skies and warmer temperatures are more plentiful. But many of the national parks are open year round, or have designated winter seasons. Olympic National Park is one of those, and they will be opening for the season on December 17 this year.

Deem Hills Recreation Area gaining 8.5 more miles of trails

Yesterday it was announced that work on six new hiking trails in the Phoenix, Arizona area will be completed in January 2011. The $168,000 project has been managed by the city of Phoenix and will add 8.5 miles of trails for residents to access in the Deem Hills Recreation area north of the city.
