As one could guess by the title, Snowboarding: Learning to Ride from All-Mountain to Park and Pipe is a book aimed towards newbies hoping to pick up the sport for the first time. While I wouldn’t traditionally think of reading a book to learn how to snowboard, Liam Gallagher has partially changed that thought.

Recent study shows BPA has effects on men, too

Over the last few months, we’ve been following the issue of biphesnol-A (BPA) in water bottles closely (read more here, here, here, and here). In the latest BPA-related news, a recent study from China connects BPA exposure with sexual dysfunction in men. Up until now, most of the information we know about involves the effects it has on women and children.

Maine gains 29,500 acres of new wilderness

This week the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) announced the purchase of 29,500 acres of land in the Roach Ponds tract. They have donated the land to the state of Maine but will continue to manage the area for recreational use and ensure its conservation.

Glacier National Park receiving stimulus money

Good news for Glacier National Park–they will be receiving almost $28 million dollars in stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These funds will be used for the ongoing repair and rehabilitation of the Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Appalachian Trail special on National Geographic Channel

Don’t miss it–tonight, November 10, at 8pm Pacific, the National Geographic Channel will be presenting a one-hour special on the Appalachian Trail. The show, called America’s Wild Spaces will explore the contrast between the wilds of the AT and the proximity to residential populations.

Review: Ahnu Footwear Firetrail XTR

Wyoming to consider requiring bear spray in the backcountry

UDAP Bear SpraySteve Weichman, the Teton County Attorney has been putting together a proposal that would require backcountry hikers to carry bear spray. The bill was announced on Thursday in Jackson, Wyoming at Snow King Resort. However, Weichman has not found a sponsor for the potential legislation.

Adventure Film Festival in Boulder, Colorado

The 2009 Adventure Film Festival will be held next week, November 12-14, in the festival’s hometown of Boulder Colorado. This year over 30 new films chosen by the international Adventure Film selection committee will be screened over the course of the three-day festival.

Recreation fees waived on Veteran’s Day

Next Wednesday, November 11th, is Veteran’s Day and in honor of veterans of the US Armed Forces recreation fees are being waived for the day by the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Reclamation. This fee waiver will be the fourth time this year the Parks System has opened up their recreation areas for free.
